Is there any stopping these two?

There were superb results for Westport Triathletes Con Doherty and Aichlinn O’Reilly at the recent Standard (Olympic) Distance National Championships at the Caroline Kearney Memorial Triathlon in Mullingar on August 12th. More than 400 men competed in the race organised by Midland Triathlon Club, including the cream of the crop of triathlon in Ireland, numerous national champions and elite athletes. Con took the honour of being the 2017 National Standard Distance Champ, while Aichlinn took third place.

Con has had a magnificent season including two top ten ETU European Cup Finishes and the National Aquathlon Championships. He finished 2nd, a mere 9 seconds behind Marten Val Riel (6th in the Rio Olympics) at Malmo ETU, the biggest result of his international career so far. This result saw Con jump 30 places on the ITU points list, making him Ireland’s second best ranked male athlete internationally, and with form like this he is certainly one to watch for Tokyo 2020!

Aichlinn has taken the title at several races this season including Hazlewood Olympic distance triathlon in Sligo and Lough Cutra Castle Half Iron distance triathlon in Gort. He also took 2nd position at the extremely competitive “Hell of the West” Olympic distance triathlon in Kilkee and is in contention for the Super Series.

Westport Triathlon Club are incredibly proud of our high performing members and excited about more success in the years ahead.
